FAQS
“Is It Safe?”
Botox Cosmetic is the “Gold Standard” of wrinkle relaxer treatments and FDA approved for the cosmetic treatment of fine lines and wrinkles of the face, specifically crows feet and frown lines. Botox is commonly used to treat safely other areas of the face and neck and is considered “off label” use. Botox has a long safety history and is administered in over 75 countries and is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country.
You should always have Botox administered by a provider who is experienced in the use of this product. Patients who receive injections by anyone other than someone experienced in its use run the risk of the product in the wrong muscle or placing too much in one location that can result in undesirable results.
“Botox or Injectable Dermal Fillers?”
One of the more important changes in facial rejuvenation has been from the two-dimensional face which focuses on facial lines and immobilization of the corresponding muscle with Botox to the three-dimensional face which focuses on facial aging and particularly volume loss and its effect on the treatment approach. Fillers used in conjunction with Botox injections make it possible to rejuvenate the face from a three-dimensional rather than a two-dimensional approach, thereby providing more pleasing, longer-lasting outcomes.
“How long does it last?”
After your treatment, you will note a gradual visible improvement of your lines and wrinkles over the next 7-10 days. Your treatment will last approximately 3-4 months and with continued treatments, you will notice continued improvement of your wrinkles. This is generally from a weakening of the underlying muscle that causes the wrinkle on the skin above. It is similar to having your arm in a cast for a period of time and removing the cast the arm is weak and needs time to recover. Likewise, if you stop having Botox treatments there will be a gradual return of your lines. This is why patients that regularly get Botox treatments notice the effect seems to last longer between subsequent treatments.
