BELLAFILL
Bellafill
Have you ever wished that your skin looked as vibrant as you feel, or wondered if there was a way to lessen the natural effects of aging on the skin? Beyond preventative measures such as wearing sunscreen or avoiding too much exposure to the sun, as well as removing unhealthy habits such as tobacco and alcohol, there are also products such as Bellafill on the market that allow patients to take a proactive approach to look their best.
Our patients love Bellafill because it is non-invasive and combines collagen therapy with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) technology. The PMMA is approximately 20% and collagen 80%. This can result in permanent improvements to volume and is often utilized off-label in boosting the collagen-deficient areas all over the body. When keeping in mind proper technique and conservative application, doctors are able to maximize the results for their patients.
Although Artefill/Bellafill was approved in Europe as early as 1994, it wasn’t FDA approved in the U.S. until 2006 for nasolabial folds (smile lines) and earlier in 2016 for correction of acne scars of the face. Artefill has been renamed Bellafill on the cosmetic market.

What can I expect after my treatment with Bellafill?
With Artefill/Bellafill, patients can expect to enjoy a significant improvement in the treated areas, including large results for wrinkles and scars. There is almost no downtime, and patients are typically good to go on with their normal routines as soon after they leave! Although there may be some slight swelling and/or bruising (typical with any type of injection), symptoms should subside within a week and can be hidden with make-up while they last. Once Bellafill is injected into the deep dermis, the collagen that wraps around the PMMA microspheres (polymethylmethacrylate) slowly degrades and your body's own production of collagen is stimulated. This collagen wraps around the microspheres developing a matrix of tissue. This takes time to do and patients will note continued improvement from 6 months to several years down the road. Because the spheres do not biodegrade collagen stimulation continues while maintaining long-term improvement.
