What Is IPL?

If dark spots or sun damage are causing your face to look weathered or wrinkled, IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy at Basin Dermatology & Cosmetic Center may be an ideal solution for you. An IPL photofacial is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adult women and men with hyperpigmentation concerns on their neck and face. A photofacial may be a noninvasive process, but it can be highly effective and produce amazing outcomes. Our advanced IPL handpiece sends intense wavelengths of light that warm the skin cells just enough to start the natural regeneration process and boost collagen production. Over time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer spots of pigmentation. Our practitioners often use IPL photofacial rejuvenation to address signs of aging and to treat specific skin conditions, like rosacea. Call our skin care office in Midland, TX to set up a personalized skin analysis, and find out if you are a good candidate for IPL treatment.

How Does IPL Work?

Photofacials at our Midland, TX cosmetic facility can usually be completed in about 30 minutes in the privacy and comfort of our treatment room. To start the IPL facial, your technician will wash and dry the skin to be treated before covering your eyes with covers. The photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of light energy. While many patients may feel mild discomfort during the IPL photofacial, it is generally tolerable given the fast treatment time. You can expect to see mild swelling and pinkness on your face as a result of the treatment, both of which can be relieved with a cooling gel pack. Over the next few days, you'll start to notice flaking in the skin as irregularities come to the surface and peel away. While you will have some visible results after the first treatment, your complexion will attain the best results after several photofacial treatments. Basin Dermatology & Cosmetic Center suggests approximately 3 – 6 treatments performed about once a month at our office.

My family and I have MULTIPLE wonderful experiences with the PA there. She has treated several members of our family, including children, and has been very caring and showed genuine concern. She is very thorough and knowledgeable while also being down to earth and easy to talk to! I highly recommend!

When visiting Derm Aesthetics & Laser center I found the staff to be friendly. Dr. Caglia was very honest and helpful in making a great treatment plan for me. I felt no sales pressure, only the concern for what will be the best results for me. I have now found my cosmetic dr for life!

Dr. Caglia has been my family's dermatologist for several years now. He has performed several cosmetic procedures on me, which have all left me with healthier younger looking skin. Dr. Caglia listened to my concerns and helped me create a cosmetic plan that would best treat my issues while preserving a natural look. Last year, my eight year old daughter had a questionable mole on her back. Dr. Caglia sat down beside her and explained the removal procedure and calmed her nerves. Seconds later, the mole was removed, and my daughter didn't feel a thing! His professionalism and genuine care for his patients is what keeps me coming back.

LOVE Dr. Caglia and his Assistant (Penny). I would highly recommend his office to anyone who is planning on getting a procedure. I would check with him first because he is one that will tell you what kind of results are possible. I have had several procedures done and ALL have had great results. I would call him an Artistic as to the detail he takes whether sculpting lips, vanishing leg veins, or laser skin resurfacing. He is one with great integrity and honest in all that he does.

About Us
How quick are the results from IPL?

Improvements can be seen after one treatment, but final results develop a month after your last treatment. It’s common for patients to see different responses following each session. You should notice gradual improvements in redness, blotchiness, age spots, and sun spots over time.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?

It's common to experience mild side effects like temporary swelling, redness, blisters, crusting, or bruising. This should go away on its own within a day or two after the procedure. Your skin will be sun sensitive and you should keep in mind that excessive damaging UV rays can impact your results. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen to avoid problems like redness and spots.

Do I need to prepare for IPL?

To prepare for an IPL treatment, patients are usually asked to avoid self-tanners and excessive sun for about 2 – 4 weeks before their appointment. You might need to discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline, or Retin-A/Renova a few days before each procedure and may be asked to take pain relievers for a week before your appointment to decrease your risk of bruising. You also need to protect the treated areas with sunscreen between sessions.
