COOL TOUCH LASER ACNE TREATMENT

COOL TOUCH LASER ACNE TREATMENT

What is CoolTouch?

CoolTouch laser is an innovative acne treatment method that uses a 1320 nm wavelength to penetrate deep into the dermis and dissipate heat. The heat causes the overactive sebaceous glands to decrease their production of oil in the skin which is one of the contributing factors of acne. This laser is safe for all skin types including tanned and dark-skinned patients. In combination with topical therapies such as retinoids, antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide, CoolTouch laser has a significant effect in the treatment of acne and is a favorite of our patients as well.

Basin Dermatology & Cosmetic Center offers this effective laser treatment for patients in Prosper and the surrounding areas of the Midland/Odessa area in west Texas.

How does the CoolTouch laser treatment work?

Although many other popular acne treatment methods mostly target the bacteria that contributes to acne, CoolTouch actually works by targeting the root cause of the condition, shrinking over-active sebaceous glands. This also calls into action your body’s natural repair mechanisms, which causes your skin to replenish itself underneath without damage to the surface. With the production of more collagen, scars begin to soften and your skin texture is improved.

What does a CoolTouch treatment feel like?

One of the great things about CoolTouch acne laser treatment is that it can be used anywhere on your skin! Prior to your treatment a topical anesthetic ointment or cream is applied for 30 minutes. During treatment patients usually report feeling a warmness from the laser, almost a tingling sensation with a rapid snap of heat followed by cooling.

Is Fractional Skin Resurfacing an option for me?

Whether you just want smoother, more radiant-looking skin or you are between the ages of 40-60 looking for an alternative to a facelift, fractional repair offers results at a minimally invasive price.

How long does a treatment take?

Initially your face is cleansed and a topical anesthetic cream is applied for about 30 minutes. The treatment itself usually takes no longer than half an hour, although it can vary depending on where it is being applied and how severe the patient’s condition is.

What improvement will you see?

You will notice significant reduction of acne over a period of 6-8 weeks. Results are achieved through a series of treatments and follow-up visits may be required to prolong your improvements along with first-line treatments with topical retinoids (Retin-A, Tazarac, Differin), BPO cleansers and oral or topical antibiotics depending upon your severity.

How will you look after treatment?

Mild redness may be seen on the affected area treated for several hours after the completion of treatment, but there is no downtime and patients can apply makeup if they feel it is necessary and return to their regular routine.

You will take prophylactic antiviral and antibiotic medication for 6 days to prevent infections.

How many treatments will you need?

Generally, treatments are done every 2 weeks for 4-6 treatments.
