LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted hair is a real nightmare and removing it is time-consuming, painful, and frustrating. Luckily, we’ve come a long way since simple shaving crèmes, waxing solutions, and epilators. Basin Dermatology & Cosmetic Center of Midland offers the latest solution to smooth skin with the Lyra 1064 Yag laser by Iridex for laser hair removal. Approved by the FDA and safe for all skin types and tones, including black skin, this is the newest technology to guarantee permanent hair reduction of unwanted hair anywhere on the body.

Laser Hair Removal is popular with men and women alike to fit the beauty standard of today’s world.

 What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal works with a low-energy frequency to remove unwanted body hair, making regular shaving and waxing obsolete. The advanced technology delivers lasting results and can treat larger areas faster. It is a safe and effective alternative to older methods for permanent hair removal such as electrolysis.

Stretch marks occur when the body grows or expands faster than the skin can accommodate causing a stretching and tearing of collagen and elastin (rubber band) fibers in the skin.

What is the procedure like?

Laser Hair Removal is a three-stage process – the area is cleaned and prepared for treatment, shaved and finally, it is scanned. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser energy without harming the skin. This heats and destroys hair follicles.

Treatments vary in length based on the size of the treated area. You will feel the cold tip of the laser which cools skin to protect it from the heat of the laser when it is fired. Most patients describe the laser as feeling like a tiny splat of hot oil.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal:

    • Allows for the treatment of larger areas compared to waxing, electrolysis or tweezing.

    • It is fast and can be performed in all areas on the body with long-lasting results.

    • Laser hair removal is FDA-approved and recommended treatment for Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB) also known as razor bumps or ingrown hairs. This is seen on the neck, but is also seen in other parts of the body. This is very frequently seen in African Americans and patients with curly hair types.

How many treatments will I need?

Number of procedures needed for long-term results depends on the treated area, density of hair and your hair’s growth cycle. As hair grows in cycles there are many important factors, such as age, weight, ethnicity, hormone levels, diet and medication that influence its growth.

The laser slows down the capacity for growth of follicles in the growth cycle at the time of the procedure. But as some hair follicles will enter their growth cycle after it, multiple treatments may be necessary for optimal results. Results will vary depending on hair and skin color.

After the Procedure

After the procedure, the area is cleaned patients can immediately return to normal daily activities. You should probably refrain from hot tubs, saunas, and extreme exercise for 3-4 days. Your doctor may advise on a specific product or routine for your particular skin complexion after laser treatment procedures. It is recommended to use sunscreen on any treated areas that will be exposed to the sun as well as avoid exposure where possible to prevent pigmentation, photoaging and skin cancers.
